Rules of Room 109

DSC01932.JPG
Our class rules are called "Give Me Five".

1. Eyes are looking
2. Ears are listening
3. Mouths are quiet
4. Feet and bodies are still
5. Hands are free - not playing

I refer to our rules many times in our school day so all students to come to my room need to understand what "Give Me Five" looks and sounds like.

What if I forget to follow the rules?

If students are unable to follow the rules they may be asked to flip a card. Each student has four colored cards with their corresponding class number located in a pocket chart by the class rules bulletin board. All students start their day on Green -making smart choices. If students need a warning they are asked to flip their card to yellow. If the student is still not in control of their behavior after the warning they are asked to flip to blue - this means they will owe 10 minutes of recess time. Students who continue to be disruptive or disrespectful to others will flip their card to red. This constitutes a letter or phone call home, all of recess missed, and possibly a discussion with our Principal, Mr Monos.

What happens if I make good choices?

Students have the opportunity to earn independent behavior rewards and group rewards throughout the school day.

Independent Rewards

*Students work towards earning "Good Choice Chips" throughout the day. Once they collect three chips they can be exchanged for a prize from the treasure chest. Students earn and exchange coins freely throughout the day.

*Students can also work towards earning Pawprints. Pawprints correlate with the acronym SAFE. This is a part of our school wide behavior plan.

Pawprints are earned by:
S- Respecting our Self
A- Respecting Adults
F- Respecting our Fellow Classmates
E- Respecting our Environment

Pawprints can be earned from any teacher in our building. Students recieve an orange pawprint to write their name and their teachers name. Then they go in a grade level box to be pulled during the announcements on Day 6. Students who are pulled are rewarded by our guidance counselor, Mrs. Nohe.

Whole- Group Rewards

Students in our class work together to earn "Warm Fuzzies." Warm Fuzzies are colorful pom poms that can be earned by our class as a whole for working quietly, transitioning quickly, earning compliments from other teachers, etc. Our class sets a goal before we fill our warm fuzzy jar and we work towards meeting that goal. This year we enjoyed 15 minutes of extra recess, a pajama day, and a homemade ice cream party!
